Have a video of a Subaru WRC demonstration showing the replacement of the transmission. The video lasts 5:06, though they don’t quite have it completed by the end of the video. The transmission is back in, but I’m not sure that they have all the connections done when the video ends. Video quality isn’t great and you can’t really make out what the event narrator is saying, but still very much worth 5 minutes of your time.
The car appears to be a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but I don’t know for sure. The video was shot in 2007. Reading about these it appears that they use sealed units so that they can swap out the diffs or transmission without losing any oil.
Seeing the old Subaru WRC cars really makes me wish they would get back into WRC. That definitely won’t happen any time soon, but hopefully down the road Subaru decides to get back in and can convince the FIA to waive the engine layout and spec transmission requirements for them. They have one of the most iconic rally liveries and some of the best looking rally cars. If you think otherwise you’re a bad person.
Every time I see a video of a top level rally car getting worked on I am so jealous of the jack stand setups that they use. It would be so awesome to put a set of those sockets in my car, but the salt would kill them and then the bottom of my car would dissolve in a year.
